Meet Emily
Growing up just outside
Minneapolis, Minnesota, Emily settled for horseback riding
lessons at an early age with her grandfather’s encouragement
when she learned that there weren’t any zebras to ride in the
Midwest. A horse crazy girl ever since, she stumbled across an
eventing barn when she was eleven, and she completed her
first eventing competition at age fourteen.
Emily got her first horse, Slick Willie, in 1998. While working
for Cindy Piper in 2000, Emily acquired the ride on an unruly,
young Irish fox hunter named Beaufort. Emily rode him for
Mr. and Mrs. Robert McCrea for the remainder of the year before
buying him in 2001.
Emily and Beaufort have
risen through the eventing levels together since then. They have
completed four three-day events in the last four years at the
one star and two star levels, and the pair moved up to the
Advanced level of competition in 2005.
Emily has studied under
some of the best riders in equestrian sports, including Dorothy
Crowell, Ralph Hill, Jane Cory, Bonnie Mosser, Becky Langwost-Barlow,
and David and Karen O’Connor. She has also ridden in
clinics with Becky Douglas Holder, Stephen Bradley, Jim Graham,
and Bruce Davidson.
Emily is a 2005 graduate of Lafayette College in Easton,
Pennsylvania with double majors in History and Economics &
Business. She also studied with the Institute for the
International Education of Students in Freiburg, Germany in
2004.
Her academic undertakings
and her extensive extracurricular and public service experience
have served as strong complements to her equestrian education,
and they have instilled in her the passion, determination,
discipline and leadership essential for success in equestrian
sports.
Emily is now riding
full-time, and she recently relocated to Middleburg, Virginia to
ride, train, and teach.

After a hunting career with the Beaufort Hunt at Badminton in
England, Emily purchased Beaufort from Mr. and Mrs. Robert
McCrea of Long Lake, Minnesota in 2000. Highlights of their
competitive career together include finishes at six two star,
internationally-sanctioned events, as well participation in the
2002 North American Young Riders’ Championships. Beaufort
completed 30 intermediate events and 4 advanced events in his
career! Emily congratulates Ms. Bailey Davis of The Plains,
Virginia on her purchase of Beaufort in December of 2006!
